First cohort begins this summer in fully online format for working educators

农夫导航 has launched a new Master of Arts in Education (MAEd) program in Teacher Leadership in English Language Learning, designed to prepare educators to better serve multilingual learners and lead in today鈥檚 evolving classrooms.

Housed in the Annsley Frazier Thornton School of Education, the program builds on Bellarmine鈥檚 established MAEd framework, which emphasizes teacher leadership, instructional excellence, and career advancement for educators. The first cohort will begin this summer.

The fully online program is designed for working professionals, offering asynchronous coursework that allows students to complete assignments on their own schedules while remaining engaged with faculty and peers. The curriculum can be completed in as few as three to four semesters, depending on a student鈥檚 prior coursework.

Program coursework focuses on linguistics, language development, culturally responsive teaching practices, and effective instructional strategies, equipping educators with the tools needed to support diverse learners and strengthen outcomes in K-12 classrooms. Upon completion, candidates are eligible for the English as a Second Language (P-12) endorsement.

鈥淏ellarmine has an exceptional reputation for preparing outstanding educators who are ready to meet the needs of today鈥檚 students,鈥 said Dr. Elizabeth Dinkins, dean of the Annsley Frazier Thornton School of Education. 鈥淭his new program reflects the strength of our teacher preparation model and our focus on developing teacher leaders who can support multilingual learners, strengthen instruction, and make a meaningful impact in their schools and communities.鈥

The program also reflects Bellarmine鈥檚 broader approach to graduate education, aligning academic offerings with workforce needs while maintaining a personalized, student-centered experience. Through high-quality online and hybrid programs, Bellarmine has developed expertise in delivering flexible learning opportunities that preserve the university鈥檚 signature emphasis on mentorship and engagement. Students in these programs report satisfaction levels that meet or exceed the satisfaction of their peers in face-to-face courses.

Graduates of Bellarmine鈥檚 MAEd programs are well-prepared to make an immediate impact in schools and communities across the nation. Through rigorous coursework, hands-on field experiences, and strong mentorship, they develop the skills to support diverse learners and lead in today鈥檚 classrooms. Building on Bellarmine鈥檚 strong record of graduate success, program completers are positioned for continued professional growth and leadership in education.

The MAEd in Teacher Leadership in English Language Learning prepares graduates for a range of roles, including ESL teacher, curriculum specialist, program coordinator, and instructional leader within their schools and districts.
