Crews said the richly-illustrated book seeks to 鈥渆voke the values and ethos that make Bellarmine, to so many of its nearly 24,000 alums, a singular home.鈥 Crews鈥 illustrated account of the university鈥檚 history is a timeless piece that expresses the spirit of Bellarmine.

鈥淚n Veritatis Amore鈥 -- a nod to the university鈥檚 founding motto -- covers the university鈥檚 predecessor institutions of higher education and spans the nearly 70 years of Bellarmine鈥檚 transformation, from its origins as a fledgling college to a renowned university in the 21st century. The book includes hundreds of historical photos and a section on the history of Bellarmine athletics.

Crews is a 1966 Bellarmine graduate and former theology professor at the university. In 2007, he was named Bellarmine鈥檚 university historian and archival coordinator. Crews鈥 previous publications focus on religion in the U.S. and Louisville, including 鈥淎merican & Catholic: A Popular History of Catholicism in the United States鈥 and 鈥淎n American Holy Land: A History of the Archdiocese of Louisville.鈥 He has also written extensively about Louisville鈥檚 history, including 鈥淐rossings: Historic Journeys near Louisville's Merton Square,鈥 which tells the city鈥檚 history through stories of key downtown street intersections.
