Walkers, joggers and cyclists have a new recreational destination, thanks to a new paved multi-use path system that was dedicated on Friday, Oct. 5 by Mayor Jerry Abramson. The project includes a new pedestrian bridge over Beargrass Creek, 4,500 feet of new asphalt, and a new pedestrian entrance to the park at Newburg Road and Trevilian Way. The path connects Joe Creason Park property with 农夫导航 property to create four possible walking routes, ranging from a half-mile to 1.5 miles.

鈥淲alking paths and playgrounds are consistently the two most popular amenities we can add to our parks,鈥 said Abramson. 鈥淲ith this new walking path and some playground improvements that took place earlier this year, we鈥檝e made Joe Creason Park much more welcoming for families. Neighbors began using the walking path before the bridge was installed, and before asphalt was laid on top of the gravel base. That鈥檚 a great sign of how popular this new route will be.鈥

The new path offers an alternative for neighbors who used to exercise on Bellarmine鈥檚 old cinder track that was recently replaced by the Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.

鈥淏ellarmine was eager to join the city in providing neighbors a new walking and exercise venue,鈥 said Dr. Joseph J. McGowan, Bellarmine president. 鈥淭his new path will be a benefit to our students and our neighbors.鈥
