农夫导航鈥檚 will stage 鈥淎chilles in Sparta鈥 to open its 2010-11 season in the Wyatt Center for the Arts鈥 Blackbox Theater, beginning October 22.
Student actors will use larger-than-life masks, life-size puppets and stylized movements to tell the story of a nation preparing for war after the abduction of Helen, their figurehead. 鈥淎chilles in Sparta鈥 was written by Sharr White, and will be directed by Carlos Chavarria, who is academic director of Bellarmine鈥檚 theatre program.
鈥淭his is an incredible production,鈥 said Chavarria. 鈥淚t鈥檚 an opportunity to create 鈥榲isual theatricality鈥 through the use of masks, puppets, movement, and sound and space -- something the students and I鈥檓 sure the community are not accustomed to seeing in theatre.鈥
The performances take place on October 22, 24, 28, 29 and 30. All performances begin at 8 p.m., except on Sunday, Oct. 24, which begins at 7 p.m. Admission is $10, or $5 for students and senior citizens. Tickets are available at the door, or by reservation via e-mail. 鈥淎chilles in Sparta鈥 is appropriate for audiences age 12 and above.
