Evelyn Cutting, a senior nursing student at 农夫导航, began her collegiate career at a different university in another state.
While she made it through her freshman year there, the school didn鈥檛 feel right. It wasn鈥檛 as welcoming or inclusive as she鈥檇 hoped.
鈥淚 realized I was just not happy there,鈥� Evelyn said. 鈥淚 was hoping to go to a place where everyone belonged.鈥�
She transferred to Bellarmine her sophomore year and hasn鈥檛 looked back.
鈥淚鈥檓 so grateful Bellarmine has an inclusive environment,鈥� she said. 鈥淭he nursing program is beyond amazing. I鈥檝e been able to fit in and thrive at Bellarmine.鈥�
About 80 students transfer into Bellarmine a year, starting in fall and spring semesters.
Jessica Lynch, director of Orientation, New Student and Family Programs, said students transfer for a myriad of reasons, whether, like Evelyn, they鈥檙e looking for a different college experience, or they鈥檙e a non-traditional student, or a veteran or active duty military or an athlete. Some students take advantage of the 2BU program that allows Jefferson Community and Technical College students to easily transfer credits to Bellarmine.
Whatever their background, transfer students receive an abundance of support to make the transition easier, Lynch said.
Transfer students are invited to a special orientation, which will be Jan. 4 this spring semester, where they get one-stop access to all the offices on campus and a thorough introduction to campus programs, services and technology.
Transfer students also get a dedicated academic advisor to ensure they settle into their new studies as seamlessly as possible.
鈥淚t was honestly a pretty easy transition,鈥� Evelyn said. 鈥淚 had an awesome advisor. She made the transition super easy. I felt super comfortable going on campus and knowing where to go.鈥�
Lynch also communicates directly with transfer students, offers special programming and makes sure students acclimate to campus life and find the resources they need.
Evelyn, who has a rare immune disorder, connected with Accessibility Resource Center.
鈥淭hey were so welcoming and wanted to make sure I was taken care of and had everything I needed to succeed at Bellarmine,鈥� Evelyn said.
Bellarmine makes applying easy for transfer students. Transcript reviews are completed quickly and all previously awarded scholarships are honored.
